27-Oct, Day Three, ROUND ONE:
On to the Main Draw at Wadi Degla

Qualifying complete, today saw 32 matches as the entire first round was played, across five courts with the Glass Court coming into use for the last four matches..

All of the top seeds progressed safely enough, with German qualifier Jens Schoor and Egypt's Karim Ali Fathi taking the only seeded scalps as they beat Aussie duo Cameron Pilley and Ryan Cuskelly, the 14th and 13th seeds.

The other qualifier to progress was Youssef Soliman, who won a five-setter over Abdullah Al Tamimi to become one of 13 Egyptians to make the last 32.

The closest to b big upset came when English qualifier Nathan Lake took a two-game lead over fourth seed Karim Abdel Gawad before the in-form Egyptian responded to avoid the potential shock.

After the opening parade action on the Glass Court saw Greg Marche stop wildcard Youssef Ibrahim in a tough encounter, followed by wins for top seed Mohamed Elshorbagy, defending champion Gregory Gaultier and three-time champion Ramy Ashour.
